Triple Success at EuroTier 2026: VetVise Revolutionizes AI-Supported Animal Husbandry

When the Animal Controls the Technology: How AI-Based Behavior Analysis Transmits Direct Control Commands to the Barn Computer and Measurably Promotes Animal Welfare.

Artificial intelligence in the barn must not simply produce even more data – it must noticeably ease the daily workload and measurably increase animal welfare. For exactly this consistently practice-oriented approach, VetVise GmbH has been awarded multiple times at EuroTier 2026:

The AI assistant BarnBuddy receives the DLG Innovation Award in Silver. The smart farrowing pen, developed together with WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp, is even awarded the DLG Innovation Award in Gold as well as the coveted Animal Welfare Award.

The awards highlight the two evolutionary stages of VetVise technology: While the BarnBuddy makes animal behavior visible around the clock and supports humans in decision-making, the solution with WEDA directly links these insights to feeding and barn technology for the first time.

"We do not just want to show what is happening in the barn. The key is to understand what a change in behavior means and what action must follow from it. It is precisely at this point that AI becomes a real, practical tool for the farmer."
— Jannick Schröder, Managing Director of VetVise GmbH

BarnBuddy: 24/7 Attention for Poultry and Pig Farms

The BarnBuddy is a camera-based AI assistant for continuous barn monitoring. The technology analyzes activity, animal distribution, and feeding behavior around the clock. Instead of snapshots during the barn tour, the system provides a dynamic view of the entire herd.

The AI detects anomalies in health, barn climate, or technology up to 48 hours earlier than the human eye. An integrated generative AI assistant translates this behavioral data directly into understandable recommendations for action. Employees can ask questions about the barn via an app or retrieve automated reports in up to 35 languages.

The principle: Management by Exception – personnel are deployed specifically where action is needed.

The analysis takes place directly on the VetVise hardware on-site in the barn (Edge Computing). Sensitive video data remains on the farm, and core functions are reliably available even without a permanent internet connection.

"The farmer knows their animals best. Our technology is not intended to replace this experience, but to complement it. We provide the farm manager with objective 24-hour attention that helps them make the right decisions faster."
— Johannes Schmidt-Mosig, Managing Director of VetVise GmbH

When Animal Behavior Controls the Technology

The award-winning smart farrowing pen shows how far this approach goes. Here, the VetVise AI analyzes the behavior of the sow and piglets in real time – for example, to indicate an impending birth early on and to automatically adjust the WEDA feeding technology.

The synergy is particularly impressive in the climate control of the piglet nest: The AI continuously records the lying behavior of the piglets. If the animals react to cold or heat, the system passes this impulse directly to the WEDA control system.

The nest heating therefore no longer regulates itself solely according to fixed sensor values, but according to the actual needs of the animals. In practice, this allowed flow temperatures to be reduced by up to 6 °C – a gain for animal welfare and energy efficiency alike.

AI that Creates Real Added Value in the Barn

By winning three times at EuroTier 2026, VetVise underlines its role as a driver of digital transformation in agriculture. The systems demonstrate how state-of-the-art AI technology seamlessly combines labor efficiency, resource efficiency, and animal welfare.
