GreenFarm Builds Its Largest Biogas Plant to Date in Denmark

The Danish company GreenFarm has delivered the technical building for a new farm-based biogas plant in Northern Jutland. Equipped with seven new engines from EC POWER, the plant will convert the farm's slurry into local electricity and heat. It will be GreenFarm's largest plant to date and is expected to start operation in October 2026.

GreenFarm is a Danish company that develops and supplies farm-based biogas plants for agriculture. After several years of strong activity in the Norwegian market, the company is now building another plant in Denmark, this time at Lundegaard Avl og Opformering in Northern Jutland.

The farm is owned and operated by Søren Østergaard and covers approximately 1,200 hectares, where potatoes and other specialist crops are among those cultivated. The pig production includes around 1,400 sows and produces approximately 30,000 slaughter pigs annually.

The farm specialises in the breeding and rearing of Yorkshire and Duroc pigs. Turning slurry into local energy Large-scale agricultural production comes with significant energy requirements and substantial volumes of slurry. With GreenFarm's biogas plant, the farm can make use of these resources to produce its own electricity and heat.

The plant converts slurry into biogas, which powers the engines to generate electricity and heat directly on the farm. This enables Lundegaard to meet part of its energy needs with locally produced energy while reducing its dependence on electricity from the grid.

Seven engines and new technology
The new plant will be a GreenFarm GF140-7, featuring seven engines with a combined output of 140 kW. It will be GreenFarm's largest plant to date and the first project to feature EC POWER's new XRGI Biogenic 20 engines.

The engines are designed to run on biogas and offer, among other benefits, an extended service interval of 6,000 hours. With seven engines, GreenFarm is taking another step towards developing larger farm-based biogas plants.

The technical building for Lundegaard
The technical building for Lundegaard has now been delivered to the farm, where work to complete the plant is continuing.

Before being delivered to Lundegaard, the technical building was presented at EC POWER in Hinnerup as part of the company's 30th anniversary celebrations. Lundegaard's owner, Søren Østergaard, and Mayor Lars Storgaard performed the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The technical building then continued its journey to Lundegaard, where preparations for operation are now underway. The plant is expected to start operation in October 2026. In November, GreenFarm plans to host an Open House event at the farm, giving visitors the opportunity to see the plant and learn more about how farm-based biogas production works.
