Svensk Fordonsladdning sees the next step in electrification

Two years ago, Svensk Fordonsladdning exhibited at Elmia Lastbil for the first time. Now that the company is back, a great deal has happened – both within the company itself and in the charging infrastructure market. One clear development is that more and more charging facilities are being combined with energy storage

– A majority of the facilities we build today have an energy storage system connected to them. This creates a more comprehensive system solution, and that is increasingly the direction the market is taking, says Kenneth Nilsson, co-founder and Head of Sales at Svensk Fordonsladdning.

From Rättvik to all of Sweden

Svensk Fordonsladdning was founded around six years ago by Kenneth Nilsson and his two brothers in Rättvik. Since then, the business has grown into a nationwide company providing complete solutions for DC charging and energy storage. The company has offices in several locations and around 35 employees across Sweden. ONE Nordic has also joined the company as a co-owner.

At Elmia Lastbil, Svensk Fordonsladdning is showcasing the breadth of its offering and how the different components work together.

– At our stand, we demonstrate our complete delivery concept. This includes DC chargers in a range of designs and capacities, energy storage systems, as well as our operations and maintenance offering, including SLA, says Kenneth.

The fair provides a snapshot of the industry

Following the company’s positive experience at Elmia Lastbil two years ago, the decision to return was an easy one. For Kenneth and his colleagues, the fair is not only an opportunity to showcase the company’s solutions. It also provides valuable insight into the pace of the transition and the issues currently at the top of the transport industry’s agenda.

– Here, you get a different sense of what people in the industry are talking about. How far have we come since last time? What has happened, and what new challenges have emerged?

Some of the visitors Svensk Fordonsladdning is meeting at this year’s fair are also customers for whom the company has built charging infrastructure since the previous Elmia Lastbil. This creates opportunities for new conversations.

– We can talk about how the infrastructure is working and what the next step will be. That is very interesting.

Power supply is a key piece of the puzzle

While the electrification of heavy transport is driving demand for more charging infrastructure, there are also challenges. One of these is access to sufficient grid capacity and power supply when new facilities are being established.

Kenneth describes a clear gap between expectations and reality: ambitions for expanding charging infrastructure are high, but in practice, projects can be delayed when the necessary power supply is not available.

Access to skilled employees is another challenge. Demand for the right expertise is high throughout the electrical and power engineering sectors.

– The entire industry is crying out for skilled people. Naturally, we are also working hard to find the right people and attract more talent to our field, says Kenneth.

Svensk Fordonsladdning’s nationwide operations also provide an advantage when it comes to recruitment.

– We recruit from all across Sweden, so where you live is not really an issue.

Meetings that drive development forward

For Svensk Fordonsladdning, Elmia Lastbil is above all a meeting place where suppliers, customers, decision-makers and other parts of the transport industry come together. And with the fair taking place only every other year, the changes since the previous event become particularly visible.

Two years after the company’s previous participation, Kenneth can see that electrification continues to move forward – but also that the solutions are becoming increasingly complex. A charger is no longer necessarily a standalone component. In a growing number of projects, charging, energy storage, power capacity and long-term operations need to be viewed as parts of the same system.

Svensk Fordonsladdning is now looking forward to the rest of Elmia Lastbil and to more conversations about what the next step will be for the transport industry.
