A box is not always just a box. At Kaizen Emballage, the process often starts with a product, a problem or a need that cannot be met by a standard solution. In November, the company will make its Elmia Subcontractor debut as part of IUC Sweden’s collective stand – and hopes visitors will bring their packaging challenges with them.
Kaizen Emballage develops and manufactures customised packaging solutions, primarily in corrugated board. These can range from a specially designed box to more advanced constructions with inserts and shock-absorbing solutions.
Peter Mårtensson and Kenn Dahlgren work with sales and packaging development and together built and managed Kaizen until the company changed ownership two years ago. With new owners behind the company, they can now devote more of their time to customer relationships and developing new solutions.
At the same time, the company’s operations are being relocated and consolidated in Trelleborg, creating new opportunities for production, logistics and continued growth.
Starting with what needs to be packed
What sets Kaizen apart is primarily the solutions that cannot simply be picked off the shelf. A customer may need to protect a sensitive component, make the packing process more efficient or fit more products onto a pallet. The first step is always to understand the need.
– What we are best at is often finding the solution that does not yet exist. Someone might come to us with a product, a drawing or simply a problem and ask: “How would you solve this?”, says Peter Mårtensson.
From there, questions about material use, protection, handling and transport can become the starting point for an entirely new design. Kaizen manages the development process in-house, from design and prototyping through to production.
That is also why Peter and Kenn see particular value in meeting customers face to face. Standard products are easy to present digitally, whereas a custom-developed packaging solution often needs to be both demonstrated and explained.
– Corrugated board is a material you need to experience. You can feel the construction, open it, fold it and see how an insert holds the product in place. That makes it much easier to understand why the solution has been designed the way it has, says Kenn Dahlgren.
But meeting in person is just as much about being able to start at the right end: not with what Kaizen already manufactures, but with what the customer actually needs. A product or a specific packaging challenge can quickly become the starting point for a conversation about an entirely new solution.
2026 will be Kaizen Emballage’s first time exhibiting at Elmia Subcontractor. The opportunity to participate came through the company’s close collaboration with IUC. With many of its customers in manufacturing, Kaizen sees a clear match between its business and the companies visiting the fair.
– This gives us the opportunity to meet companies and people working with exactly the kinds of products where smarter or more customised packaging can make a difference, says Kenn.
The fair also coincides with a new phase for Kaizen following the change of ownership and the move to Trelleborg. With more time to focus on customer relationships, sales and development, Peter and Kenn hope the fair will bring new contacts – but also new problems to get their teeth into.
– We are not coming to Elmia just to display a selection of finished boxes. Show us what you need to pack – and we’ll start from there, says Peter.
You will find Kaizen in IUC Sweden’s collective stand, C02:30, during the fair.
