✏️ Turning Ideas into Industrial Design

✏️ Turning Ideas into Industrial Design

From the first sketch to series production: co-design, materials, finishes and processes working together. A new product often begins with an idea, a sketch, or a shape that is still waiting to be developed. This is where the collaboration between a designer and an industrial partner can make a real difference. At Anodica Trevigiana S.p.A., we approach co-design as a collaborative process that supports the project from the first concept to series production.

✏️ From Sketch to Product The process starts with a designer’s sketch or a 3D model. From there, a journey begins, involving multiple touchpoints with the customer.

Together, we analyse the project and help transform it into a solution that can be effectively industrialized. Materials, finishes, surface treatments and technological processes are evaluated according to the product’s specific requirements:
Aesthetic, to achieve the desired appearance, colour, texture and level of perceived quality.
Functional, to ensure performance, resistance and durability.
Geometric, to meet the shapes, dimensions and tolerances defined by the project.
Economic, identifying solutions that help control the component’s cost and, consequently, the final product price.

The result is not simply the production of a component, but the development of a tailor-made solution, created together with the customer.

🎨 The “Outfit” of the Appliance In the world of home appliances, every detail contributes to defining the product’s identity. Handles, knobs, profiles and aesthetic-functional components become part of its “outfit”: surfaces, colours, finishes and textures must work together with the overall design and the brand’s visual language. That is why our co-design approach goes beyond simply checking whether an idea can be manufactured. The goal is to identify how to manufacture it in the most effective way, drawing on our expertise in materials, finishes and production processes.

⚙️ Design and Industrialization, Together Between the first concept and series production, there are several stages: project analysis, technical discussions, material and finish selection, sample development, testing and optimization. It is a process built on continuous dialogue with the customer, allowing the solution to be progressively refined until it becomes an industrialized, repeatable product ready for series production.

💰 Design and Cost: Finding the Right Balance How can we preserve the design without making costs skyrocket? This is one of the questions that accompanies every industrial project. That is why, during the co-design process, we work with the customer to explore different possibilities for optimizing component costs without compromising the product’s aesthetic appeal or functionality. The choice of material, geometry, production technology or finish can make a significant difference.

🌱 Sustainability Starts at the Design Stage Co-design is also an opportunity to address product sustainability and process optimization. Material selection, component design, finishes and production methods can all contribute to reducing waste, optimizing machining operations and improving the overall efficiency of the process.

For us, designing together means finding the right balance between design, technology, functionality, industrialization and cost, while keeping the impact of both the product and the process in mind. Because turning a sketch into a series-produced product means much more than manufacturing it: it means developing it together.
