Italian steel giant establishing in Värnamo

- We have been operating here in Sweden with our own company since 2012, but now we are making a huge investment and building ABS's first steel service centre outside Italy, says Eric Lennermark, CEO of ABS Steel Nordic.

The building in the Bredasten industrial area in Värnamo, right next to the E4 motorway, will be 5,500 square metres in size and is expected to be ready for occupancy in the second quarter of 2026. It will be used to store structural steel, high-strength and case-hardened steel, free-cutting steel and micro-alloyed steel.

- We will also store rolled, turned, ground and cold-drawn steel and have cutting equipment that can process from 10 mm to 560 mm, says Eric Lennermark.

Delivering directly from the steelworks

Since its start in Sweden, ABS Steel Nordic has become a go-to supplier for big buyers in the automotive, mining, and general engineering industries in the Nordic market, with annual sales of up to 55,000 tonnes.

- Here in Sweden, we're number two in special steel, and we're number one among foreign producers in Sweden and the Nordics, says Eric. 

The new steel service centre in Värnamo will only sell ABS's own materials.
- When you buy from us, you are buying directly from the steelworks. ABS is Europe's leading producer of special steel with a total capacity of 1.4 million tonnes. By 2030, we expect to exceed 2 million tonnes in capacity at the steelworks, says Eric Lennermark.

The right target group at the trade fair

The construction in Värnamo is a concrete step towards bringing ABS closer to its customers, and recruitment of personnel for the steel centre is currently underway.

- The choice of Värnamo was strategic. Here we can reach small and medium-sized workshops. From Värnamo, you can reach 75 per cent of Scandinavia's population within five hours by car, says Andreas Heiel, site manager at the new steel service centre.

This is also the reason why ABS Steel Nordic chose to exhibit at Elmia Subcontractor for the first time:

- Virtually all of our customers for the new business are here at the fair, either as visitors or as exhibitors. Elmia Subcontractor is an extremely good meeting place outside the digital world, says Andreas Heiel.
