– Elmia Subcontractor was a springboard for us. The fair was much bigger than the German owners had imagined and the experience here contributed greatly to putting Sweden on the map within the group, says Daniel Sigvardsson, BIKAR Metals Sweden.
Since its inception, the company has grown rapidly. Twice a week, material is delivered from the German warehouses to Sweden – sheet metal, plates, bars, rings, profiles and special alloys. The ambition is daily transports, something that may soon become a reality given the growth rate.
– We register two to three new customers a week, says Daniel.
A strength of the company is the unique range of alloys for the aerospace and aviation industry. Here, BIKAR Metals is the only one in Sweden that can deliver the full range, which gives customers the opportunity for Swedish contracts even for the most advanced applications.
Behind the expansion is a strong family business. BIKAR Metals was founded in Germany in 1962 and is today run by the third generation. At the headquarters in Bad Berleburg and in Korbussen, there are 120,000 square meters of warehouse space, five high-bay warehouses and more than 60 sawmills – currently, a further 22,000 square meters of production and a robotic high-bay warehouse are being built in Korbussen. The investment amounts to 60 million euros.
After last year's positive experiences, BIKAR Metals is doubling its investment in Elmia Subcontractor. The company is moving from Hall D to stand B01:97 and this year is staffed with twice as many employees, reinforced by colleagues from Germany.
- This is truly an opportunity for us to reach out broadly to all sectors within the industry, says Daniel Sigvardsson.
