Karla Eklund:

“Now the fair is established in earnest”

Polymers are the materials of the future, with tremendous potential. And the industry is proactive. These are established facts as Elmia Polymer closes its doors for 2012.

“I’ve had some very positive feedback, partly regarding the highly qualified visitors. This is the second time we’ve held the fair, and we have now laid a firm foundation for the future,” says Karla Eklund, Project Manager for the fair.

Trends and innovations have been revealed. Contacts have been forged and experiences exchanged. But above all Elmia Polymer 2012 has been a marketplace for business. Machine manufacturer Krauss Maffei sold two machines on the very first day of the fair.

“The right visitors came to the stand and we did business straight away. That isn’t so common, but Elmia Polymer is exactly the kind of place things like this can happen,” says Jan Pettersson, President of Krauss Maffei Sweden.

According to the Swedish Industry Association’s Plastics Barometer, which was presented during the fair, plastics companies are more proactive than other subcontractors. There is greater faith in the future, and many focus on exports and their own products. BMW’s Head of Design for Advanced Materials, Hilke Schaer, who visited the fair on the Thursday, also predicts a bright future for polymers.

“Plastic will increasingly be seen as a quality material. Development is advancing rapidly. I can see some particularly large technical improvements ahead and have absolute faith that plastic will meet the tough demands of the future.”

Elmia Polymer has been held alongside two other industrial fairs – Elmia Automation and Elmia Welding & Joining Technology – and this has proven to be a successful concept. Automation has run through all three trade fairs like a common theme, and efficient production is of course crucial in any industry. More than 50 robots were shown at the fairs, which is a record and is already making waves in the industry.

“The response has been tremendous! A lot of companies that are not here this year have been in touch and want to be involved in future fairs,” says Peter Scott, Business Unit Manager at Elmia.
