Elmia’s takeover of ScanPlåt creates new opportunities for the Swedish manufacturing industry. The fresh start with Elmia Sheet Metal will be the industry’s own trade show for sheet metal working, machinery, tools and accessories for the sheet metal working industry. Moreover, the fair is being held in parallel with three other trade shows: Elmia Automation, Elmia Machine Tools, and Elmia Welding & Joining Technology. All the fairs focus on integrated production engineering for the Swedish manufacturing industry.
“The sheet metal working industry has expressed an interest in being part of the family of production engineering fairs. The trend nowadays is towards increasing integration, where different techniques and disciplines are woven into a wider context. Investments in machinery are increasingly part of a complete system, so it is only natural to organise these four fairs in parallel, under one roof,” says Peter Scott, Commercial Manager at Elmia AB.
“The industry is too small to have a separate trade fair. To ensure a good influx of visitors, we need to encompass the engineering industry and its technologies as a whole. Elmia as a trade fair venue is also right in the middle of things, at the hub of a dense industrial region with many small and medium-sized companies, all of them highly creative and innovative. What’s more the fair is in the spring, perfectly timed in relation to the international fairs and alongside other interesting themes, making it attractive to customers,” says Alexander Ström, CEO of Din Maskin AB in Värnamo.
Proximity and accessibility
The new fair Elmia Sheet Metal is important in many ways. Its location in Jönköping assures proximity and easy accessibility for the industry and its subcontractors.
“We now have a strong industrial event that covers a large part of what we’re looking for. The fact that it’s located in our region, where the manufacturing industry is so prominent, is of course an added bonus. May is also a good month time wise, as the big international engineering fairs tend to be in the autumn,” says Daniel Petersson, Managing Director of Gårö Plåtprodukter AB in Gnosjö.
“The manufacturing industry and all its subcontractors now have a complete production engineering event every other year. This means the latest technology for developing your company can now not only be found at fairs abroad, but also here in Sweden, accessible to more people. This initiative is not only welcomed by the sheet metal working sector, but also by business partners for the other fairs. We look forward to helping develop this platform into a successful event alongside our exhibitors and visitor groups,” says Peter Scott.
