The winner of The Silviculture Award

A unanimous jury selected Alfa Skogsservice as the first recipient of the newly founded forest management prize, the Silviculture Award.

But the winner scarcely had the time to attend the presentation ceremony at SkogsElmia.

“It’s a great honour but we’re in the middle of planting 11 million seedlings,” explained the company’s founder, Ivo Krsek.

The Silviculture Award was established by Skogforsk (the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden) and Elmia to reward contractors who work with silviculture.

“A third of Sweden’s contractors have no machines but instead focus on silviculture,” explained Anders Mörk of Skogforsk.

Ivo Krsek is from the Czech Republic and took a summer job in northern Sweden in 2009 to plant trees. He met a soulmate and founded his company in 2011. Since then, the business has grown continually on a good financial basis and now also has a presence in Jönköping.

Eight years after it began, Alfa Skogsservice is Sweden’s third-largest silviculture company, with operations in much of the country. Around the time of SkogsElmia, the operations involved planting 11 million seedlings.

The jury justified the award as follows:

“The company has a clear business concept, strategy and vision, which permeate the company, and this has led to a position as the third-largest silviculture company in Sweden with good and stable finances. The company’s organisation, with northern and southern regions plus central functions is clear and efficient. Its IT platform is under major development for control, follow-up, monitoring, and efficient administrative routines for invoicing and salary administration. The company has a clear personnel policy that gives employees a lot of personal responsibility and inspires development.”
