Conquering the world, one small-scale pellets unit at a time
“After the first World Bioenergy fair in 2004 I had about 20 units in operation in Sweden and there were many people who didn’t believe in my concept of small-scale pellets production,” Mikael Wallin says with a smile. “Now we have 140 units operating all over the world. The latest countries to receive a visit from Sweden Power Chippers were Canada and New Zealand.”
Wallin has always focused on machine solutions for the small-scale pellets producer.
“Our presses have a capacity of between 150 to 1,000 kilos an hour. Our target group includes small-sized sawmills or planing mills that want to make use of their own byproduct, process it and earn money from it.”
At the World Bioenergy fair in Jönköping, Sweden, he is exhibiting his smallest press, which can produce 150 kilos of pellets per hour.
“We deliver it the same way as it is standing here now, inside a shipping container. The container holds both the sawdust and the pellets press. It’s dead easy to install at the customer’s, basically you just plug it into the wall,” he says.
The right niche
He has begun to tire of being asked why he doesn’t also build large presses.
“Small-scale is what I know best. I like developing solutions that are easy to run and give a quick payback. I also believe that the increased demand for our smaller presses shows that this is a product niche that customers want. And the international interest in our presses just keeps on growing.”
