Market boom for solid biomass fuels will lead to increased market integration

Demand for solid biomass is exploding and market information flows are continuously becoming more available. Together, these two factors are the driving forces behind the development of an integrated global bioenergy market with reduced price differences between countries and continents. In the EUBIONET III workshop on 25 May, issues crucial for this process – such as logistics, market transparency and sustainability - will be highlighted and discussed.

Minister of agriculture Mr Eskil Erlandsson will open the conference

Mr Eskil Erlandsson, photo: Pawel FlatoThe Swedish minister of agriculture Mr Eskil Erlandsson will open World Bioenergy 2010 and give an opening speech. Mr Erlandsson is well familiar with the bioenergy sector. He is from the Småland region, and himself a farmer and forest owner. He used to be "mayor" of the city of Ljungby south if Jönköping, a city with a modern heat and power plant using both sorted municipal waste and wood chips. As minister of agriculture Mr Erlandsson is well aware of the important role bioenergy plays for Swedish forestry, agriculture and rural development, creating thousands of jobs and giving additional income to the communities.

Making ethanol from old textiles

Making ethanol from discarded jeans and other textiles is just one example of "waste to energy" presented at World Bioenergy. The Japanese company Jeplan has developed the technology for utilising  cotton waste for ethanol production and will give a presentation at the conference. Similar research and development is underway at the University of Borås in Sweden.

The theme of World Bioenergy 2010 is "taking you from know-how to show-how. We want to show the world what can be done already today! Register for the conference here.

Transfer tours - from Copenhagen and Stockholm

Jönköping is located exactly half way between Stockholm and Copenhagen. In fact, the distance from Copenhagen Kastrup Airport is a little less than the distance from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. So it makes sense to book Pre and Post conference transfer tours from Copenhagen, 24 resp. 28 May. Particularly so, since Copenhagen has many favourable flight connections, and since the tours from Copenhagen include a number of interesting study visits, including:
- One of Sweden’s largest and most interesting biogas plants, using pig manure and residues from a large food industry.
- The biomass gasification project at Värnamo, ready to develop second generation biofuels for transport.
- Large scale production and large scale use of pellets, etc.

Conference programme with speakers
from 28 countries!

The programme is now published, and it includes 81 speakers from 28 countries, representing all continents.

Learn about small-scale biodiesel in Rwanda, tropical sugar beet for ethanol i Colombia, stump harvest in Finland, the world’s largest pellets factory in Russia, or about torrefaction research in the Netherlands. Just to mention a few examples.

See how pellet technology is really working!

There is much activity on the world's pellet markets at the moment! At World Bioenergy 2010 we pinpoint this fast developing bioenergy sector during two sessions focusing solely on pellets. Among other areas we highlight the world's pellet markets, new technologies for pellet production, torrefaction technologies, enhanced production processes, new policy frameworks and much more! Our goal is to give you as a conference delegate the most interesting and inspiring topics in this field. Pellet combustion technology will also be an important and integrated part of the fairground where you can see how pellet technology is really working!

Visit pellets plants!

As part of the pre and post conference tours, and the daily study tours, there will be a number of visits to pellet plants. Tour A1 from Stockholm/Arlanda to Jönköping on 24 May will make a stop at BooForssjö pellet factory, a medium size unit integrated with a saw mill. Tour E1 from Jönköping to Copenhagen/Kastrup will stop at Derome in Kinnared, a relatively new pellet plant, and also visit a large heat and power plant using pellets. Daily tours will be arranged to a pellet plant south of Jönköping.
