Vimek launches harvester head with stump processing and weigh feature

Vimek have made a name for themselves for their in-stand machine concepts.
At Elmia Wood the machinery manufacturer is launching a harvester head, the Vimek 160, for the extraction, loading and unloading of biofuel.

“We are unique in being able to offer a grapple that permits stump processing during thinning extraction, explains Johannes Nilsson, Product Manager of Vimek.

The head can also be equipped with an accumulator for multi-stem processing plus a weigh system for direct, reliable weighing of the biofuel.

At Elmia Wood the head is mounted on a Vimek 606 BioCombi, a combi-machine that can both cut and transport biofuel.
“The Biodrivar concept, with a combined feller and forwarder, has proven to be a success in stands that are somewhere between cleaning and first thinning, says Johannes Nilsson. He predicts small, flexible machines are making a comeback in the forest:
“With the BioCombi you can harvest ordinary timber one day and energy crops the next, move the load and drive it straight out to the road. Even if the load capacity is of course smaller than a full-size forwarder, it can still take three tonnes at once.”

The TB160 weighing system is integrated into the grapple for safe, protected operation. The system registers the weight of the grapple and then the cut, transported biofuel can be weighed when it is unloaded.
