Ebeaver – a radio-controlled, versatile feller-buncher
An exciting prototype of an eco-friendly feller-buncher is attracting an appreciative audience at Elmia Wood. The machine is radio-controlled, flexible and easy to steer.
The basic version of the Ebeaver is as a feller-buncher.
“You can fell, bunch and skid out your energy crop,” explains Bengt Rimnäs, who helped to develop the machine. “Larger stems have to be taken out separately.”
The Ebeaver is apparently particularly suitable in stands that are in between cleaning and thinning.
“On sensitive terrain and in intermediate zones it also works really well because it is so small and easy to manoeuvre.”
Various attachments
By changing the attachment to a bucket the Ebeaver quickly becomes a ditcher, or if you change to an earth drill it is very useful when you want to fence fields and put up game fencing.
“We’re also working to develop scarification attachments and corridor cleaning equipment,” Bengt says.
He says the Ebeaver’s radio controls give it a huge advantage in terms of its work environment: “You avoid vibrations and you’re out in the fresh air – but always safely at a distance.”
In production this autumn
The machine is compact and weighs only 1,300 kg.
“This is an advantage not only in the forest – you can load the entire equipage onto a trailer and drive to the next stand or ditch,” Bengt says.
Having eight wheels to distribute the weight reduces the risk of ground damage.
“The Ebeaver is also built to be extremely compact. This makes it efficient and easy to operate in stands. We’ve invested a lot of effort to make a top quality prototype. This autumn we hope to put the Ebeaver into production in earnest,” Bengt says, and steers the Ebeaver into the stand of trees.
