The number of rail commuters has increased significantly since the Port of Gothenburg began to invest in rail freight services seven years ago. Emergence continues and this with the utmost regard for the environment. Together with stakeholders Port of Gothenburg has been a driving force in the development of the 25 daily train commute to almost as many locations around Sweden. In early November there will be increased commuting to Drammen in Norway.
-This has been a conscious effort where we have had good cooperation with our customers and with the National Rail Administration, says Erik Niklasson, Production Manager for the railway, the Port of Göteborg. For our customers, this means a fast, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly relations with the rest of the world.
RAIL PORT Scandinavia is a commuter rail system between the Port of Gothenburg and the importance of consumption and production centers in Sweden. The cooperation started in 2002 with a view to increasing the share of rail freight. Since then, the number of commuters increased from 6 to 25 daily commuter and the freight volume has increased by 342 000 TEU:s.

Port of Gothenburg invests heavily to expand rail service to and from the port. Environmental benefits that come with the growing freight by rail is great. In 2008, rail transport was decreased carbon emissions at 48 000 tonnes compared to the goods had been shipped by truck. This equates to 200 000 flights between Stockholm and Gothenburg or emissions from 14 000 cars a year.
