Intermodal hub with scope
In autumn 2010 Botniabanan will be taken into service. This means a lot for Umeå and the region in the North of Sweden. Extensive investments and new infrastructures has been made. Nordic Logistic Center represent the natural transport and logistics hub of northern Scandinavia. Umeå will have a special position as a dynamic growth region in the north.
-Previously, we have been a backwater existing railway, but with Botniabanan are we with the network in a completely different way, says Gunnar Isaksson, project manager at Nordic Logistic Center in Umeå AB.
In Umeå there is a strong export industry and an expanding economy, extensive trade, two universities and a steadily increasing population. With Botniabanan extensive investments in infrastructure has been made. With the new railway, new multipurpose terminal, a new logistics area with NLC Park, a new ring road and expanded port Umeå strengthens its role as the intermodal hub in the Nordic transport. Botniabanan opens up for next spring. Umeå becomes Nordic Logistic Center - an intermodal hub to open the gate to Scandinavia.
