Regulations for stand construction over the maximum height of 2.5 m
At trade fairs organised by Elmia AB, exhibitors’ stands, signs, fittings and furnishings are subject to a maximum height of 2.5 m, in accordance with the terms of the contract and the authorities’ regulations.
If you have any special requirements and/or would like to make yourself more visible to visitors, Elmia AB can grant exemptions from the prescribed maximum height, in which case the following regulations apply:
Additional fee for high construction/extended exposure
Signs, Streamers, Shelf hangers over 2.5 m high.
Accepted on the condition that:
- A written application is submitted to Elmia AB no later than two months prior to the start of the fair.
- Any construction/exposure within 2 m from the neighbouring stand is conditional on the approval of the neighbouring exhibitor and must only consist of texts, logos and similar displays! See 1 in the figure below.
- Construction/exposure more than 2 m from a neighbouring stand may contain text, a logo or some other message. See 2 in the figure below.
- No more than 50% of the stand area is used for extended exposure.
- Such constructions comply with official Swedish Building Regulations (Svensk Byggnorm) as well as the special fire and evacuation regulations prescribed by the relevant authorities.
- Stand construction work is not started before Elmia AB has given permission in writing.
Elmia AB reserves the right to request any further particulars it may require.
- An extended exposure fee of SEK 5,000 will be charged on your service invoice at the end of the fair.
EXCEPTIONS
- Products in the stand that are higher than 2.5 metres, as well as ceiling rigging for light mounting, are not considered high construction/extended exposure.

Regulations for the construction of two-storey stands (to accommodate people or movable loads)

- The construction of stands must comply with official Swedish Building Regulations (Svensk Byggnorm) as well as the special fire and evacuation regulations prescribed by the relevant authorities.
- All material must comply with current fire safety standards. If some form of roofing is used on the upper storey, the total area shall not exceed 60% of the ground-floor area of the stand.
- No more than 50% of the stand area shall be a two-storey structure, and the two-storey section must not be located closer than 3 m to any of the surrounding stands. Elmia AB can grant exemptions to this regulation.
- Two-storey stands must not be erected closer than 10 m to another similar stand. In consequence of this, late applications are likely to be refused.
- The ceiling height for the ground-floor level must not be less than 2.3 m or more than 2.5 m.
- Twice the standard rate will be charged for the part of the stand that is of two-storey construction.
- Stand construction work must not be started before Elmia AB has given permission in writing. Elmia AB reserves the right to request any further particulars it may require.
- For inspection, Elmia AB charges SEK 2,000 per stand.
Floor material
Only textile tape may be used to fix mats and carpets to the floor. All tape is to be removed at the end of the fair. Floors may not be painted or damaged in any other way. Damage to the floor must be reimbursed at repair cost.
Attachment of cables /wire rope
Any attachment of cables/wire rope must be carried out by Elmia's own personnel. Elmia's personnel must also be contacted so that approval can be given for attachment points for other means of suspension.
Hawsers
Work with hawsers or any other metallic equipment should be carried out using tools such as a rubber mallet to avoid generating harmful noise levels.
Sound amplification
Loudspeakers must be used with discretion, so that other exhibitors and visitors are not disturbed. Wireless microphones for voice and sound amplification are not permitted.
Electrical installations
Power distribution units must not be blocked. Metal stand frames, armatures and utility goods made of conductive material must be earthed. All electrical installation must be comply with the prevailing Heavy Current Regulations. Elmia now has permission from the Swedish National Board for Industrial and Technical Development (NUTEK) to wire portable units by cables and plugs without the restrictions of official Heavy Current Regulations (Starkströmsföreskrifterna) Section 52, Point 521.4. A condition of this permission is that Elmia undertakes to check and rectify any faults in the portable units.
Elmia will check wiring to spotlight rails free of charge. In the event of a fault, this will be rectified by Elmia personnel where possible. The costs for this will be charged to the exhibitor. For safety reasons, faulty equipment may not be used in the fair area. Wiring to the fixed installations of the exhibition halls must be performed by Elmia’s authorised contractor.
Night-time power supply
The power supply to stands is switched off overnight. If you need round-the-clock power at your stand, please order from the Order & Price List. Product code: 62 160 – 1-phase 230V socket, 24 hours.
Power consumption
The service invoice issued to every exhibitor includes a service charge for the consumption of electricity based on the type of equipment used in the stand (lamps, machinery or any other electrical equipment).
Faulty electrical equipment
If the equipment used by an exhibitor results in a fuse or fuses blowing due to reasons for which Elmia cannot be held responsible, Elmia shall be entitled to charge for the time spent locating and correcting the fault. Such reasons include an incorrect dimensioning of the power supply required, faulty equipment, transformers requiring extra high voltage in connection with start-up or similar.
The exhibitor is personally responsible for all electrical equipment used in the stand except for equipment leased from and supplied by Elmia.
Fire regulations
Elmia AB works systematically with fire safety in accordance with the Swedish Act on the prevention of accidents. The instructions of Elmia’s Fire Safety Officer must be followed.
Construction and decoration material: The walls and roof of the stand must be built from a non-flammable material of at least Class III, which means not lower than wood. Wooden fibre-board for instance is OK. Roofs on roofed stands or closed stands over 30 m2 must be equipped with fire alarms. Decoration material, such as textiles, if used for ceilings or walls must be impregnated to reduce flammability. Please note that untreated material such as cardboard, paper, EPS (expanded polystyrene), plastics etc. cannot be used as construction or decoration materials.
Packaging: Wrapping and any other combustible packaging material must be stored in the designated place.
Vehicles: The fuel tanks of all motor vehicles, including those fuelled by LPG, must be equipped with lockable caps. Max. 10 litres of fuel in the tanks of petrol-driven vehicles. If possible, disconnect batteries.
Escape routes: It is not allowed to block any of Elmia’s escape routes or doors, firefighting equipment, fire alarms or safety signs.
Highly inflammable and explosive goods: Handling and storage of inflammable liquids or gases must be reported, in writing, to Elmia in good time before the exhibition. Please state the name of the exhibition and your stand number. Explosive or pyrotechnic goods are not to be used at or brought to Elmia – indoors or outdoors – without written permission from Elmia.
Hot work: Welding, soldering, cutting, grinding, drying, heating etc. or naked flames are not allowed, even during the construction of stands, without written permission from Elmia.

Fire Safety Regulations for Marquees
General: Elmia strives for a high level of safety for exhibitors, visitors and personnel in all its operations.
Responsibility: The exhibitor is responsible for assuring fire safety in the marquee. The Rescue Services and Elmia have Fire Safety Officers who may inspect marquees for fire safety. If fire safety is deemed unsatisfactory after such an inspection, the cost of bringing fire safety up to the required level will be charged to the exhibitor.
Marquee material: The marquee canvas must be treated or made from a material that fulfils Rescue Service requirements. Marquee manufacturers have official type approval, and this should be included with the marquee for presentation to the Rescue Services. All marquees hired from Elmia are type-approved.
Fire Safety Equipment for activities that entail a fire hazard in marquees over 30m2: Activities that entail a fire hazard in marquees include running machinery, cooking, the use of bottled gas and other activities that could cause a fire. For such activities, the marquee must have at least one type-approved fire extinguisher and a fire blanket.
Fire Safety Equipment for activities that do not entail a fire hazard in marquees over 30m2: Activities that do not entail a fire hazard in marquees refer to activities where no high risk of causing a fire exists. For such activities, at least one type-approved fire extinguisher is required.
Fire Safety Equipment in marquees over 30m2 without flammable material: Marquees that contain no flammable material carry no requirement for Fire Safety Equipment. However, for the safety of you and your guests, Elmia does recommend that at least one type-approved fire extinguisher be present.
Fire Safety Equipment in marquees under 30m2: In marquees under 30 m2 where no activities that entail an obvious fire hazard take place, Elmia has no requirements on Fire Safety Equipment. In this instance, activities that entail a fire hazard refer to handling a naked flame, flammable substances and cooking.
Fire Safety Equipment in multilevel marquees: For marquees with more than one level, the above requirements apply for each level, along with approved evacuation routes.
